Anna Angelova on how she reset her business

The Quiet Power of Resetting

September 16, 20267 min read

Here I am, doing another pivot. But this time it's a full reset. And it made me think about the quiet power of resetting. Starting from a clean slate.

I haven't felt this determined and energized in a while. Yes, I still have doubts creeping in. Yet, I'm also excited for what's ahead. And I want to invite you on this journey today.

A Bit About Me

You may already know me, but chances are that you don’t. So, here’s a short intro about me.

I’m Anna Angelova, a business coach & consultant. I was born and raised in Bulgaria until I had the opportunity to come to Canada. I was lucky to work for a Canadian company, so they helped me move here to attend the Morning MBA program at Rotman.

At that time I thought I wanted to become a CIO one day (we didn’t have CDAO or CDAIO at that time). But after 3 years at Rotman, I graduated the same person – introverted & shy. The only thing that changed significantly was my view on climbing the corporate ladder. I no longer wanted to become a CIO. Being a consultant was awesome enough and a better way to actually make a difference.

Yet, I didn’t really make anything out of my MBA degree. Didn’t even have a conversation with my employer at that time for opportunities to fully utilize my talents.

It was not until a year later that things changed significantly for me.

Coaching Changed My Life

I still remember reading about coaching – what it was and what qualities it required. It was as if this was written for me. So I researched a bit and found the perfect program offered by iPEC. One that had a few in-person modules and a lot of online training and learning.

And it was in the midst of this program and thanks to the Energy Leadership Framework that I had an epiphany. Yes, I might be an introvert. I might also be shy (I still sweat during sales calls, by the way; TMI, I know 😊). Yet, I always have a choice. At any time and in any situation I actually have 7 choices of how to show up.

This was so freeing and empowering for me. Such a revelation.

So, naturally, I wanted to share this with others. I wanted other people to experience the power of the Energy Leadership Framework and coaching in general.

6 and ½ Years Later

This happened back in 2020. February of 2020.

Today, I’m blessed and lucky to be able to combine coaching and consulting with the work I do with aspiring founders, solopreneurs, and small business owners.

I work mainly with service providers, including a few fellow coaches, doctors, and lawyers.

It hasn’t been an easy journey. I was coaching on the side until relatively recently. I only took on building my own coaching and consulting practice 18 months ago.

There were ups and downs, successes and failures, excitement and disappointment. And many shiny objects. Too many actually.

So, when something happened last week that made me get a new CRM system, I saw this as a sign for a reset.

The Quiet Power of Resetting

It’s so interesting how systems work. Even when you start with a simple one, it tends to bloat and become complex if left unchecked.

If you are building your own business, you know what I’m talking about. As I’m looking at my old CRM system, I can see:

  • 24 email sequences

  • 15 funnels

  • 21 forms

  • 11 guides for lead magnets

And this is for a small business like mine. Mainly managed and run by one person.

Starting from Zero

So, in a way, I’m now starting from zero. Yes, I still have my clients and I’m still offering business coaching and consulting. But the move to the new CRM allows me to focus my efforts.

I don’t know if I can explain how energized and liberated I have been feeling the past few days. It’s like a load is off my shoulders.

I know there’s a lot of science behind this. How we get impacted by mental and physical clutter. One of the programs I purchased last year actually had a video talking about spending a day decluttering your space and mind. This is how powerful this can be.

So, while I’m only resetting my CRM and marketing efforts, I still feel the effects it has on my energy and motivation. Here I am, writing this post on my own with no writer’s block. It just flows.

Which brings me to…

Focus & Fulfillment

Focus & Fulfillment

I decided to use “Focus & Fulfillment” for the name of this blog and the new newsletter. And following in the footsteps of Ryan Levesque, I’m personally writing this. No LLM involvement. Only Word suggesting commas here and there and helping me with the spelling (who knew revelation is not spelled “revalation”).

This will be a weekly blog where I will be sharing insights, ideas, and my views on building a visionary business and living a fulfilling life. I’ll be writing about my own journey and what I see in the work I do with clients. And if you are wondering what topics I’ll be covering, this are the main ones:

·Personal leadership, development, and responsibility (because you must become a business owner first before you actually build a business; and because the world needs more of us to start with the person in the mirror)

·Business building (everything from marketing and sales to operations and finances because who doesn’t love talking about numbers)

·Productivity and organization (getting the right things done)

·Life itself (because, ultimately, we all want to live life to the fullest)

Why I’m Doing This

Like many fellow small business owners and coaches, content is such a pain in the ass. Well, it has been.

I have been thinking about it for so long. I even started following people who post on LinkedIn every day and send emails every day.

I’m not this type of person. Actually, if you know me and have worked with me, you know that I’m not the loudest person in the room. Far from it. I rarely speak up. In a way, I share my ideas and thoughts only if I think it will be beneficial.

Then why am I trying to be someone else online? Why am I following the example of people who are probably not like me? Why am I allowing an algorithm to drive my actions?

These are some of the questions I had been struggling with and finally I decided to be myself online as well. And this means I write one thoughtful piece of content a week and share it. No posting multiple times a week. No daily emails.

I know I have a lot to share. I also know that in today’s world, visibility matters more than ever. And if I want to succeed building my own business and living my own purpose, this blog is part of what I do.

Who This Is For

Now, at this point you might be wondering whether it’s worth subscribing and following.

I don’t know how this will turn out and whether it will niche down into one topic more than others. What I know is that if you are a fellow coach, this is for you. If you are a small business owner, this is for you. If you are someone who wants to live life to the fullest, this is for you.

Closing Thoughts

Not sure whether you read up to here or not. Word says it’s already over 1270 words, so it’s a bit lengthy. But if you are here, thank you for reading and paying attention. I really appreciate it.

What I want to leave you with today is the quiet power of resetting. Is there an area of your life or business that’s too cluttered? So cluttered that you feel stressed?

Maybe it’s time for a reset. For a clean slate. For a brand new chapter.

I know resetting can be scary. We tend to get attached to sunk costs. Yet, it’s so liberating and energizing.

So, as I wrap this thing up, I highly encourage you to pause for a while and do a bit of introspection and retrospection.

Is there an opportunity for resetting and decluttering in your business or life?
